City tours to hidden places

The Bonn Information Office will be starting its city tours again on the Easter weekend. In addition to the well-known classics, the 2024 program will focus on tours to places that are otherwise closed to the public.

Showing visitors "their" city - that was the aim of Birgit Landsberg, acting head of the Bonn Tourist Information Office, when designing the city tour program for 2024. "We have a wealth of interesting stories and places in Bonn that are worth telling and visiting," says Landsberg.  The main part of the guided tours consists of the classic offer, tours through the city center or the popular trips in the double-decker bus. "For guests visiting Bonn for the first time, these offers are just right to get a feel for the city. But we are welcoming more and more 'repeat offenders' to Bonn, and the people of Bonn have also become an important target group for our tours," explains Landsberg.

She and her team have therefore decided to include more guided tours in their program that take guests to places they would not be able to visit without the city of Bonn's tour guides. To this end, the Bonn Information team works with many different partners. From Bonn Minster to the Deutsche Post DHL Group - many places in Bonn open their doors to interested guests on selected dates. From April, for example, you can climb high up into the roof truss of Bonn Minster or onto the visitor floor of the Post Tower in the former government district. If that's too high for you, you might prefer a visit to the crypt in the cathedral or the Heinrich Bastion below Friedensplatz.

Those interested can discover the roof truss of Bonn Cathedral on a tour of the Bonn Information Center.

Special guided tours to mark the "75th anniversary of the Basic Law"

However, Birgit Landsberg and her team will also be continuing long-established guided tours in 2024. "Our boat trip on the Rhine is a popular program item for our guests, especially in the summer months," explains Landsberg. The tours of the plenary chamber and Villa Hammerschmidt have also been classics in the program for years. There have been changes to these tours in the government district this year. "We are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law in Bonn this year. We are therefore paying special tribute to Bonn's importance in the history of German democracy. This is attracting a great deal of interest throughout Germany, which is why we are now offering the guided tour on the "Path of Democracy" every week from April to October," reports Landsberg.

The Bonn Information team is particularly looking forward to the big citizens' festival on May 25, 2024 in the government district."We will be offering free guided tours of Villa Hammerschmidt and tours of the government district on this day," explains Landsberg. The Office of Press, Protocol and Public Relations has compiled the complete program for the anniversary year on its own website  https://demokratie.bonn.de (opens in a new tab).

Seasonal guided tours are also back on the Bonn Information program in 2024.The carnival tours offered in January and February have already been well received. For the Christmas market at the end of the year, Bonn Information has designed a special offer just for groups in addition to the long-established tour on Friday afternoons. In addition to stories about the Christmas market, the tour also includes various tastings.
