Overview
Under certain conditions, people whose main place of residence is Bonn receive a Bonn ID card. This entitles them to discounts on certain services.
Trainees, pupils and students only receive a Bonn ID card if they receive a vocational training allowance (BAB) or benefits in accordance with the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG).
People who receive citizen's allowance under the Second Book of the German Social Code (SGB II), social assistance under the Twelfth Book of the German Social Code (SGB XII) or benefits under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act (AsylbLG) are generally eligible and receive the Bonn ID card automatically. No application is therefore necessary for these people.
If you belong to this group of people and do not receive your Bonn ID card automatically, please first contact your case worker at the Jobcenter Bonn or the Office for Social Affairs and Housing to find out whether the personal data you have entered there is correct.
You can apply for the Bonn ID card to be issued or extended in writing or online via the service portal. You can find the link under "Forms and links".
Bonn ID card calculator
You can use the Bonn ID card calculator (see under "Forms and links") to calculate in advance, without obligation, whether you could be entitled to a Bonn ID card. Please note that the calculation is based on the information you provide and is therefore a non-binding result. The final decision will be made by the Bonn ID Office.
Reductions
By resolution of the Council of the City of Bonn, a discount is granted on some tickets of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg GmbH (VRS) according to the applicable fare, limited to the Bonn city area, upon presentation of the Bonn ID card.
Discounts are granted on 4-person tickets for children in the short-distance and 1b price categories, on the 4-person ticket 1b and the monthly ticket for adults as well as the so-called "19 € ticket" (monthly subscription ticket). The discounts can be found in detail on the SWB website, the link can be found under "Forms and links".
All information on the discount options can be found under "Forms and links" under "Information sheets" in the "Bonn ID card guidelines".
