Cultural Office

Description

Bonn has always been a city of culture. The cultural offerings are characterized by enormous diversity and the highest quality and contribute to the good quality of life in our city.

Supporting cultural actors is a central task of the City of Bonn's Department of Culture. Through project-related and institutional funding as well as the implementation of state programmes for cultural education and the organization of its own cultural events, the Cultural Office creates a good framework for cultural activities in Bonn.

In addition, the  City Archive,  Memorial/NS Documentation Center,  City Museum and  Ludwig van Beethoven Music School are institutes of the Cultural Office. The City Archive holds the records of Bonn's city administration, the estates of Bonn citizens, associations and companies as well as special holdings and collections, which can be made available to all interested parties. In the permanent exhibition "And suddenly you no longer belonged ...", the Nazi memorial and documentation center show the exclusion and persecution of people from Bonn and the region under National Socialism. Educational programs address the structure and ideology of National Socialism and present biographies of the persecuted, followers and perpetrators. The City Museum traces the history of Bonn from Roman times to the present day and answers questions about the events and circumstances that shaped the city. With five branches and around 160 teachers, the Ludwig van Beethoven Music School is the central music education institution in the City of Bonn. It reaches a good 4,000 children, young people and adults.
