Talk by the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) in cooperation with the City of Bonn and the Bonn SDG Days: European weather and climate research made in Bonn

Whether weather forecasting - for example for agriculture or air traffic control - or climatology: the importance of reliable data is great. Serious policy planning for climate adaptation and disaster prevention is not possible without sound science and advanced data processing and numerical modeling capabilities. In close cooperation with its member states and national institutions such as the German Weather Service, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) produces world-leading weather forecasts.

ECMWF has its headquarters in Reading (United Kingdom), its data center in Bologna (Italy) and in 2021 opened a site in Bonn, which now employs over 200 people.

The event will present the ECMWF's tasks and objectives as well as the importance of selected research activities for sustainability planning. It is also a contribution to the Bonn SDG Days. The ECMWF is an annual partner of the City of Bonn 2025.
