Make America Roman again?

The US Constitution and the Roman Republic

Datum & Uhrzeit

The drafters of the US Constitution looked to Roman Republicanism as a historical example to shed light on a variety of constitutional themes. We will examine how the drafters engaged with historical accounts of the Roman Republic and will use this analysis as a vantage point to understand the United States’ constitutional architecture, including aspects such as executive power and the separation of powers. We will then consider how this might (or might not) inform our reading of the constitution today.
