Reduce your own energy costs and protect the climate
Solar systems not only benefit the climate through renewable energy generation, but also benefit owners and tenants: With a photovoltaic system, you can generate your own solar power that you can use in your home. With a solar collector, you can heat your domestic hot water and also support your heating system. This reduces your energy costs. Electricity from the photovoltaic system that you do not use yourself can be fed into the public grid (Bonn Netz GmbH) for a fee, making grid electricity more climate-friendly throughout Germany.
What solar potential does my roof have?
Would you like to know how many square meters of your individual partial roof areas are suitable for photovoltaics or solar thermal energy and what electricity and heat yields you can expect per year? Then use the Solarkataster.NRW (opens in a new tab)of the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection (LANUV) - you can simply enter your own address there. The yield calculators also provide you with free information on the profitability of your solar system.
You can also take advantage of free advice from the Bonn Energy Agency (opens in a new tab). You will then be well prepared to obtain quotes from installers
How much does the city of Bonn subsidize my solar system?
The city of Bonn subsidizes photovoltaic systems for solar power generation on residential and non-residential buildings as well as on open spaces, solar thermal systems for heat generation with heating support, PVT systems (combined solar power and heat production) and plug-in solar devices with an investment grant. You can also receive funding for a roof survey to check whether your roof is suitable for your planned solar system or whether it needs to be modernized first.
There are also bonus grants for combined green roofs and for EEG tenant electricity models. Building owners, homeowners' associations, tenants of roof or façade areas are eligible for subsidies if they install and operate solar systems there, as well as tenants of apartments as far as plug-in solar devices (such as balcony solar power plants) are concerned. The upper limit for the sum of all grants is 25,000 euros per property.
Solar systems on listed buildings
Solar installations are permitted on the roofs of most listed buildings. If the solar installation is visible from the public space, this permission can be subject to conditions in order to integrate it more harmoniously into the appearance of the listed building. The city of Bonn has published the "Guidelines for Solar Installations and Monument Protection" for this purpose.
