The 25/26 season at the opera
A total of 14 productions await audiences at the opera house in the coming season: Works by great Italian and German composers, world premieres and rarely performed gems of opera literature. Verdi's masterpiece Nabucco marks the beginning. The famous chorus Va, pensiero became a hymn to freedom in Italy - and could not be more topical. Then it's back to Nessun Dorma on a total of six evenings - at the top-class Italian opera gala. Entertainment continues at the end of October with the musical Tootsie. Grand seigneur Peter Konwitschny then returns to the house. In a theatrical investigation, he takes an unconventional look at one of the most enigmatic operas of all: Die Frau ohne Schatten.
Die Ameise by composer Peter Ronnefeld, who died aged just 30, celebrates its premiere in the FOKUS'33 series. It is the first new production of this extremely lively opera with jazz elements since 1969. Director Matthew Wild is bringing The Barber of Seville to Bonn from January - and breaking all genre boundaries with his rousing plea for tolerance. Awakening is a world premiere by award-winning composer Param Vir. At his side: Vasily Barkhatov, one of the most sought-after directors on the opera scene. Director Leo Muscato then ventures into Verdi's OTELLO together with General Music Director Dirk Kaftan and, following the brilliant success of Fidelio and others, director Volker Lösch brings an updated version of Freischütz to the stage of the Bonn Opera House at the beginning of May.
The 25/26 season in the theater
The upcoming season at the Schauspielhaus starts with a special bang: The Odyssey, the world premiere of a spoken opera (commissioned by Ketan Bhatti) for actresses, actors and orchestra under the musical direction of Dirk Kaftan and in-house director Simon Solberg. A unique collaboration between Theater Bonn, the Beethovenfest and the Beethoven Orchester Bonn. The Odyssey based on Homer brings language and music into a powerful interplay, is a dialog, dialogue and orgiastic intoxication all in one and opens the season with an epic musical outburst of sensuality.
As the season progresses, classics and the present, comedy and tragedy meet: works such as Max Frisch's Biedermann and the Arsonists meet new dramatic voices such as Saint Falstaff (a new adaptation of Shakespeare's Falstaff motifs by Ewald Palmetshofer) or Die Waffen nieder! (an adaptation of the first German anti-war novel by Bertha von Suttner).
A total of 14 premieres form a multi-layered journey through time and genres. At the heart of the productions is the tension between power and responsibility - two forces that shape individuals, cause systems to totter and challenge our society. The characters on stage fight for influence, get caught up in moral conflicts and ask the central question: who takes responsibility and who evades it? And what does this mean for us as viewers today?
