Under the motto "17 Events for the 17 Goals", the second Bonn SDG Days will take place from 3 May to 30 June 2019. With a varied programme, the City of Bonn, together with various Bonn institutions and initiatives, is once again inviting the public to implement the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (SDGs) at local level.
The SDGs provide a blueprint for all states and municipalities to make their societies ecologically, economically and socially sustainable by 2030. On the basis of these 17 Goals, the City of Bonn has developed its first municipal sustainability strategy, which was adopted by the Council this February.
As a kick-off to the Bonn SDG Days, this year’s edition of the Rhine in Flames festival will feature a large information stand and activities at Rheinaue’s Rose Gardens. From Friday to Sunday, May 3 to 5, Engagement Global will present its 17-Goals trailer. There will also be an SDG wheel of fortune of the City and other exciting activities.
At the same time as the Rhine in Flames festival, the "Global Festival of Action" of the Bonn-based UN SDG Action Campaign for the worldwide implementation of the 17 Goals will take place in the World Conference Center Bonn with around 1,500 participants from all over the world.
On Monday, 6 May, the Hope Theatre from Nairobi will give a guest performance at 6 p.m. in the cupola hall of the Metropol. The "The Fair Trade Play" political revue with dance, drums and esprit raises questions about the economic relations between Europe and Africa, human rights, fair trade and sustainability.
At the Cycling Action Day on Saturday, 25 May, all kinds of opportunities to join in on cycling will be presented.
More information and impulses on climate protection will be provided by the two interactive events "Klimaschutz macht Ah!" on Wednesday, 12 June, and "Money and Climate - Citizen Dialogue on Climate-friendly Fair Investment of the City" on Tuesday, 25 June, at the Haus der Bildung.
A new edition of the popular SDG pub quiz is also back in the programme. This time it will take place at Fiddlers in Endenich on Thursday, 6 June.
A special highlight during the action days is the "World Construction Site Bonn": Two international artists will design a house wall in the city’s Macke District in line with the 17 Goals. The artistic statement should further anchor the SDGs in the cityscape and in the minds of all citizens. The art campaign will be presented at the Macke District Festival on Sunday, 19 May. Macke District Mayor Brigitta Poppe-Reiners will present the new wall painting at the closing party of the art action campaign on Saturday, 29 June.
