Children and family.

More than 55,000 children and young people under the age of 18 live in Bonn. The department for Children, Youth and Family (Jugendamt) alongside with other organisations offers them a great number of opportunities.

Registering a child

Parents looking for a suitable kindergarten or day-care centre in their vicinity may obtain comprehensive information (in German) through Bonn’s web portal:

The portal also allows parents to prebook a slot (not to be confused with the actual personal registration that will guarantee the slot).

Once the parents have taken a decision for a suitable institution, they should visit the kindergarten or day-care centre in their area to personally register their child. Admission is based on certain criteria, including the child's age. Older children will normally be admitted before younger children to allow every child ample time in kindergarten before moving on to school.

For further information, please contact the Family Service Center of the local Office for Children, Youth, and Family under 0228 774070 or send an email to familienbuerobonnde
