Mayor Dörner received the new director of the Bonn International School, Dr. Robert Sims, for his inaugural visit at the City Hall on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.

Victoria Appelbe, Dr. Robert Sims, Oberbürgermeisterin Katja Dörner and Sandhya Balasubrahmanyam.

In addition to getting to know each other, the meeting served as an exchange about the importance of the Bonn International School for Bonn as an international city and also, to inform the Mayor about the school's diverse activities and offerings.

"Bonn is an international city. Specialists and executives from abroad shape the UN institutions and non-governmental organizations based here, the internationally oriented companies in the service and production sectors, and the numerous scientific institutions at the location," Dörner said. The Bonn International School is an important factor in retaining or attracting international companies and organizations to the region, she added. "I am pleased to be able to continue the good cooperation between the City of Bonn and the Bonn International School with Dr. Sims as the new school director," Dörner continued.

Canadian Dr. Robert Sims has been heading Bonn International School since August 1, 2022, succeeding Patricia Baier, who retired. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership and brings more than 25 years of experience as a teacher and principal at private schools in North and South America, Asia, Southeast Asia and Europe.

Dr. Robert Sims explained, "Our school educates about 800 children from more than 70 nations each year. Almost all of them come from abroad or from German families who have international connections." Commenting on his new place of work, Dr. Sims said, "I myself have now become part of Bonn's international community and have felt welcome here from the very beginning. Proximity to the city is important to me, so I was delighted to have the opportunity to exchange ideas with Mayor Dörner."
