4,000 refugees from Ukraine registered in Bonn so far

Almost 4,000 refugees from Ukraine have registered in the federal city of Bonn since February 24, 2022. As of May 24, 2022, there were exactly 3,995 people, 254 of whom have since moved away again. On average, about 30 refugees reach Bonn every day.

In the meantime, the city administration has accommodated 2,272 refugees from Ukraine: 390. in municipal accommodation, 163 in municipal apartments and 1,137 in hotels, while a further 582 persons have been placed in private accommodation.

Based on the applications for residence permits, the Foreigners' Registration Office has now issued about 3,200 so-called fictitious certificates. The fictitious certificate contains the passage that any gainful employment is permitted. How many people have actually taken up work in the meantime is not known to the city administration, since the specific employment does not have to be approved.

In the central contact point of the district government of Cologne in Bonn, up to and including May 24, 2022, about 730 pupils* from Ukraine were registered and assigned to the various types of schools, and the trend is currently increasing. Of these, around 285 students (39 percent) are assigned to elementary schools, 360 students (just under 50 percent) to lower secondary schools (preparatory classes/language support groups) and 85 students (a good 11 percent) to upper secondary schools (international support classes at vocational colleges).
