The meeting took place on Thursday and Friday, May 19 and 20, 2022, at Petersberg near Bonn as part of this year's German G7 presidency. During their visit to the Old Town Hall, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner and his counterparts from the United Kingdom (past G7 presidency), Rishi Sunak, and Japan (future G7 presidency), Shunichi Suzuki, placed their signatures in the book. Also signing the book were Dr. Joachim Nagel as President of Deutsche Bundesbank and his two counterparts Andrew Bailey (Great Britain) and Haruhiko Kuroda (Japan).
Mayor Katja Dörner gave the guests a warm welcome to Bonn's front parlor and said: "With your entry in the Golden Book of our city, we are honoring the special significance of the meeting of the G7 finance ministers and central bank governors in the current difficult times. My thanks also go to the German government, which has awarded two important meetings of its G7 presidency to Bonn and the region." The G7 media and culture ministers are expected to meet in Bonn in June.
Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner: "From Bonn, important steps have been taken to build a new order of peace in Germany, Europe and the world. With the UN organizations, Bonn today virtually embodies the spirit of international cooperation. But it is precisely these liberal democratic values that are being attacked in the most terrible way. Together with my counterparts, I will work to strengthen international cooperation and advance policies that enable stability and growth worldwide."
Germany took over the G7 presidency from the United Kingdom on Jan. 1, 2022. The Federal Ministry of Finance and Deutsche Bundesbank will hold the presidency until the end of 2022, when Germany will hand over the presidency to Japan.
