First Round Table on the Bonn-Kherson Solidarity Partnership

In order to discuss first concrete steps under the solidarity partnership between Bonn and Kherson, Mayor Katja Dörner invited representatives from civil society, politics and administration to a virtual round table on Friday, March 24, 2023. Vice Mayor Anton Jefamov from Kherson was also present.

Kick-off for donation project "Bonn helps Kherson"

With the support of the Bonn aid organization "Help - Help for Self-Help", the City of Bonn is launching the donation project "Bonn helps Kherson" as part of its solidarity partnership with the Ukrainian city of Kherson. Mayor Katja Dörner and Dr. Thorsten Klose-Zuber, Secretary General of Help, informed about this. The participants of the round table expressed their support.

Since the beginning of the war, Help has been supporting people in Ukraine together with local partner organizations.

Mayor Dörner: "Only together can we help the people!"

"It is a matter of great concern to me that we quickly provide help and support to the people in Kherson and especially in the reconstruction of the destroyed infrastructure," said the Mayor. "I am all the more pleased that we can already start the donation project today together with Help and broad support from many Bonn citizens. I am confident that the reconstruction in Kherson can be supported financially in this way and hope for creative actions such as benefit concerts or charity runs. Only together will we succeed in helping the people of Kherson in their time of need!"

"Help is happy about the decision of the City of Bonn to establish a solidarity partnership with Kherson and is gladly available as a partner organization. Together, with the support of the citizens of Bonn, we can help the people of Kherson to meet their needs. With repairs especially of damaged municipal facilities like medical institutions, hospitals, schools, kindergartens we can support the reconstruction", says Dr. Thorsten Klose-Zuber, Secretary General of Help.

Thanks goes to partnership initiatives

Mayor Dörner also took the opportunity to thank the participating representatives from the administration, associations and civil society for their commitment to date. The City would like to continue to work closely with these initiatives and actively support them within the framework of the Bonn-Kherson solidarity partnership.

The solidarity partnership

The Council of the city of Bonn decided on February 9, 2023 to establish a solidarity partnership with the City of Kherson. This was preceded by an official request from Kherson, which had reached the Bonn city administration via the Ukrainian Consulate General in January. The partnership will focus on humanitarian support for the people of Kherson and help in rebuilding municipal administrative structures.
