Wielandstraße 4: First refugees from Ukraine move in

The City of Bonn is putting its third large municipal accommodation for refugees from Ukraine into operation: from Monday, July 18, 2022, the first people will move into Wielandstraße 4 in Rüngsdorf (Bad Godesberg district).

"We want to integrate the people who have already found refuge in our city into our urban society in the best possible way. This is a great challenge for everyone involved," says Mayor Katja Dörner. "The refugees will be provided with accommodation, care and support, and children and young people will be accepted into daycare centers and schools. In the process, we can also count on the support of numerous voluntary initiatives, integration institutions and associations, which makes me very happy."

In the first step, space for up to 250 people

Around 400 people can be accommodated at Wielandstrasse 4. In a first step, up to 250 people will be accommodated there, who are currently living in various hotels spread around the city. Operation of the accommodation is in the hands of the German Red Cross, which already runs the collective accommodation at Siebengebirgsstrasse 200 and Mallwitzstrasse 2-4, as well as the initial reception center at Ernst-Robert-Curtius-Strasse 12.

The Municipal Building Management (SGB) and the Office for Social Affairs and Housing have taken over the preparation of Wielandstraße 4. While the SGB took care of the necessary technical requirements, such as water and electricity connections, the Social Welfare Office was responsible for furnishing the rooms, among other things.

The residents have the possibility to cook in the equipped communal kitchens and to do their laundry in communal laundry rooms. Each household is provided with a refrigerator. The rooms themselves are equipped with beds, wardrobes, tables and chairs.

2,352 refugees from Ukraine accommodated

As of Monday, July 11, 2022, a total of 4,366 refugees from Ukraine have registered in Bonn since the end of February, of whom 505 have already moved away. The city administration has accommodated 2,352 people - 605 in municipal accommodation, 237 in apartments, 889 in hotels, and 621 people were placed privately.
