The United Nations Development Programme has had a representative office in the city since 2021. Germany’s United Nations City
The foundation for Bonn's development into a "Germany’s United Nations City" was laid in 1996 when the United Nations Volunteers Program was established in Bonn. The UN Climate Secretariat followed shortly thereafter. Today, the UN is represented in Bonn by around 25 agencies with 1,000 staff, having become the center for sustainability within the United Nations, surrounded by a growing network of governmental, scientific, economic and civil society actors.
