This is a joint press release with the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection
Federal Environment and Consumer Protection Minister Steffi Lemke: "The BMUV has its first office in Bonn. This will remain so. In general, Bonn is and will remain a good location for our ministry and certainly for other federal ministries as well. Thanks to digital working and organizational formats, we are now working together more effectively than ever across different locations. This is proving its worth especially now during the pandemic, when we have a comprehensive home-office arrangement for our employees. I will continue to work for Bonn's development as a United Nations location and for important international conferences, especially on the major sustainability issues of our time."
Lord Mayor Katja Dörner: "I am pleased that Minister Lemke wants to promote Bonn as the German city of the United Nations. With her visit, she is sending a strong signal to Bonn and the region. We have high expectations of the new federal government to enter into talks with us as soon as possible on a supplementary treaty to the Berlin-Bonn Act."
There are currently 25 United Nations organizations in Bonn. One of the most recent to move to the UN campus was the UN-GWOPA Secretariat for the Global Water Operators' Partnerships Alliance, which moved into its new headquarters in Bonn this summer. In addition, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, ECMWF, has moved from the UK to Bonn. It is temporarily based at the BMUV.
