Cherry blossom: Mask obligation in the old town extended

Due to the continuing cherry blossom, the city government has extended the masking requirement in the Old Town until Friday, April 30, 2021. It continues to apply daily from 9 am to 10 pm. A corresponding general decree was published by the Federal City of Bonn on Friday, April 16, 2021.

The city expressly points out that the masks may not be removed in the Old Town as a matter of principle, i.e. also not for the consumption of beverages and food and beverages (tobacco) as well as for photo or film shoots.

In the area between Berliner Platz, Kölnstraße, Kaiser-Karl-Ring, Hochstadenring and Bornheimer Straße, a medical mask (OP mask, FFP2 mask or comparable mask such as KN95/N95 without outlet valve) must be worn at the times mentioned. Specifically, the mask requirement applies to the following streets and squares: Breite Straße, Dorotheenstraße (between Adolfstraße and Breite Straße), Franzstraße, Georgstraße (between Adolfstraße and Heerstraße), Heerstraße (between Franzstraße and Kölnstraße), Im Krausfeld (between Adolfstraße and Heerstraße), Maxstraße, Michaelstraße, Paulstraße, Peterstraße, Schützenstraße, Vorgebirgsstraße (between Adolfstraße and Heerstraße) and Wolfstraße.

The city's public order service will restrictively monitor compliance with the mask requirement. Should there be an increased number of violations of the Corona Protection Ordinance and a very large number of visitors, so that it is not possible to comply with the infection protection measures comprehensively even with the mask requirement, the city administration reserves the right to close the respective street sections.

Mask obligation in pedestrian zones and shopping streets extended

With another general decree dated April 16, 2021, the City of Bonn has extended the mask requirement in the pedestrian zones of Bonn and Bad Godesberg and the shopping streets in Beuel and Hardtberg until Monday, April 26. In Poppelsdorf, it now also applies on Clemens-August-Strasse.

The requirement to wear a mouth-to-nose covering (including scarves, shawls or other covering made of cloth) applies at the main train station, Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz and Konrad-Adenauer-Platz from 7 am to 10 pm. In all other areas, everyday masks must be worn between 10 am and 8 pm.  A corresponding card is available at  However, a medical mask (surgical mask, FFP2 mask or comparable mask such as KN95/N95) must be worn when shopping, visiting the doctor, on buses and trains and at bus stops.

In addition, the city's general order extends the automatic quarantine rule for people who learn they have been in contact with someone who has tested positive until Monday, April 26, 2021.
