This year, we are again looking forward to numerous conferences and events in our city. Quite a few of them will be held with the participation of the City of Bonn. Save the date for Europe Day, Zero Hunger Run and much more. Here’s a selection of what’s on in Bonn. 

The City of Bonn has entered into an annual partnership with the Global Crop Diversity Trust for the year 2023. The Global Crop Diversity Trust (Crop Trust) is an international organization based in Bonn whose goal is to conserve and keep available the genetic diversity of crops in agriculture in order to ensure the long-term nutrition of the world's population.

Bonn aims to become climate-neutral by 2035 while meeting the Paris-compliant CO2 budget. The City has recently presented a Climate Plan revealing that this is an ambitious and demanding scenario, but perfectly feasible.

On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the new appointment of the members of the German Council for Sustainable Development in the Federal Cabinet. Bonn's Mayor Katja Dörner was also appointed to the Council for the first time. 

Bonn, home to many international non-profits, is a natural home for FLOCERT, the certification body of the Fairtrade system. Headquartered in the heart of the city, this social business celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. We talked to the CEO, Katharina Wagner, about FLOCERT’s mission and what makes it a typical Bonn employer.

On the occasion of World AIDS Day on December 1, UNAIDS, the federal government and the City of Bonn reinforced the partnership towards ending AIDS globally and addressing urgent needs of the HIV response during the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

Mayor Dörner has recently received the new director of the Bonn International School, Dr. Robert Sims, for his inaugural visit at the City Hall. The meeting served as an opportunity for exchange and also, to inform the Mayor about the school’s diverse activities and offerings.

A small anniversary and a very special laureate: the "Döppekooche Queen" for the years 2021 and 2022 is Patricia Espinosa. The former Executive Secretary of the Bonn-based United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is the tenth recipient of the honorary title, which is awarded by the Old Town Hall Association. Each year, a personality is honored for rendering outstanding services to the City of Bonn.
