Following the severe destruction in the City of Kherson in the wake of the Russian war of aggression, three vehicles have recently been transported to the Ukrainian partner city. Further donations and relief aid from Bonn are being organized

The European Regional Office of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Bonn was officially introduced on Thursday, June 22, 2023, while it had officially started its operation in November 2022. With the European Regional Office, alongside the Environmental Law Centre which has been operating in Bonn since 1970, and several global thematic teams, IUCN has greatly expanded its presence in the city of Bonn. 

We were thrilled to welcome the directors of the United Nations Information Centers (UNICs) from around the globe here in Bonn in late June. At the invitation of the Federal Foreign Office and the City of Bonn, the meeting of around 30 media representatives was held for the first time in our city. The program placed a special focus on sustainability and also included participation in Deutsche Welle’s Global Media Forum.

In late June, Deputy Mayor Dr. Ursula Sautter traveled to Leeds, UK, to discuss the role of urban diplomacy and municipal exchange for maintaining European cohesion and advancing sustainability around the globe. The program included a number of related expert exchanges and panel discussions.

UNDRR, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, has named the City of Bonn, Germany, a new Resilience Hub for the Making Cities Resilient 2030 initiative. The certificate was presented by Mami Mizutori, UNDRR Director and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, to Mayor Katja Dörner at the Old Town Hall on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. 

Under the OECD Champion Mayors Initiative for Inclusive Growth, Mayor Dörner shares her policies and approach to provide affordable housing for all in Bonn, introducing the Bonn Building Land Model for binding quotas for the construction of publicly subsidized housing.

2,525 children from 40 elementary schools in Bonn have successfully participated in the "BONNi & BO climate license" of the Bonn Climate Ambassadors Foundation this year.

The Beethovenfest presents a festival of "music on life" in some 70 concerts in Bonn and the Rhein-Sieg district from Thursday to Sunday, August 31 to September 24, 2023.
