United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women

UN Women support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms. It helps Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society.
The National Committee Germany (previously UNIFEM Germany) spreads information on worldwide activities of UN Women Entity for gender equality and the empowerment of women. It informs nationally on the goals of UN Women and carries out fundraising activities. It also represents UN Women in front of governmental bodies of the Federal Republic of Germany, the European Union, the Council of Europe, and the United Nations. Annually, the National Committee confers a reward upon innovative projects by women’s organizations in developing countries and regions. This reward was inspired and financed by the Apfelbaum Foundation.
