Bonn Europe Day, May 6, Old Town Hall and Market Square
On Saturday, May 6, 2023, the annual Bonn Europe Day will take place on the market square and in the Old Town Hall.
Under the motto "EU Update - Living and Learning in Europe", European and Europe-policy organizations, associations and initiatives from Bonn will present their work and invite citizens to discover Europe and its opportunities and to engage in some exchange. In addition to the information and hands-on offers, there will again be a colorful stage program highlighting Europe.
The Bonn Europe Day is expected to be jointly opened at 12 o'clock by the Mayor of Bonn, Katja Dörner and the acting head of the regional representation of the EU Commission, Patrick Lobis. Bonn Europe Day is organized by the Department of International Affairs and Global Sustainability in cooperation with the European Commission Regional Representation in Bonn.
Fifth Global Water Operators' Partnerships Congress
(5th Global WOP Congress), May 22-25, 2023, Bonn, presumably WCCB
Titled "Resilience in challenging times: mobilizing collaboration for future-ready water and sanitation service providers," the Fifth Global WOPs Congress will be held in Bonn from May 22 to 25.
The conference will bring together experts from around the world at the invitation of GWOPA, the global alliance of water operator societies, to exchange strategies and measures for improving water supply.
GWOPA is an organization of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat) and has been based in Bonn since 2020.
UNFCCC Bonn Climate Conference, June 5-15, 2023, WCCB
From June 5-15, the so-called subsidiary bodies of the Bonn-based United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will again meet at the World Conference Center Bonn. Traditionally, these "interim negotiations" are of great importance for the preparation of the next climate conference, which will take place from Nov. 30 to Dec. 12 in Dubai (UAE). Around 3,000 - 4,000 delegates from all over the world regularly take part in the two-week interim negotiations in Bonn.
For the fourth time, the city network Local Governments for Sustainability ICLEI and the City of Bonn together with partners invite to Daring Cities, the forum for cities in the climate crisis.
Planned as an official side event of the UN climate negotiations (see above), Daring Cities aims to bring together mayors with representatives of the negotiating delegations as well as from academia and civil society.
DW Global Media Forum, June 19-20, WCCB
In 2023, Deutsche Welle will once again invite media professionals from around the world to Bonn for the Global Media Forum under the title "Overcoming Divisions.
As in pre-Corona times, information about the work of the United Nations and other international organizations in Bonn will be offered in a tent city on Market Square. A colorful stage program for the whole family is also planned. A special focus this year will be on the 50th anniversary of Germany's membership in the United Nations.
10th Plenary Meeting of the World Biodiversity Council IPBES (Intergovernmental Panel on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services);
August 28 - September 2, WCCB
Chaired by the United States of America, the 10th Plenary Meeting of the World Biodiversity Council (IPBES) will be held in 2023 at IPBES headquarters in Bonn, Germany. Organizations and institutions in the field of biodiversity (including the BION network) as well as the City of Bonn will also be involved in supporting the assembly.
Bonn SDG Days, September 10 to October 1, City Center
The Bonn SDG Days 2023 will take place from September 10 to October 1, as Bonn's traditional contribution to the German Action Days on Sustainability and the Global Week to #Act4SDGs. All interested parties can participate with program items. The event will kick off once again with the #ZeroHungerRun organized by Welthungerhilfe, for which the City of Bonn has been requested as a cooperation partner. Friedrichstraße will once again become a 17-Goals Action Zone with the symbolic umbrella roof in the colors of the Sustainable Development Goals. Information booths and campaigns will provide information about the SDGs and solicit support for their implementation in Bonn with numerous partners.
ICCM5, Sept. 25-29, WCCB
The "5th International Chemicals Management Conference" (ICCM5) was originally already planned for October 2020 and had to be postponed several times due to the pandemic. Now, ICCM is scheduled to take place in the World Conference Center Bonn from 25 to 29 September. Between 1,000 and 1,500 people are expected to attend.
