Municipal archive

Are you interested in our city, its history and its present?

The municipal archive and the historical library Bonn are open to the public. Opening hours are: Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 am to 4 pm, Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm.

Visitors need proof that they have been vaccinated or have recovered (2G rule)
Exceptions to the 2G rule apply to children up to the age of twelve, as they are regularly PCR-tested in their daycare centers and schools (so-called lollipop test). Adolescents from 12 to 18 years of age who have neither recovered nor been vaccinated require a test no more than 24 hours old. Persons who cannot be vaccinated - for example, for medical reasons - also require appropriate proof and a negative test result.

Visits are possible only after written registration, mentioning the name and address (for possible follow-up) and indicating the desired duration and reason for the visit. The e-mail address for registration is  lesesaal.stadtarchivbonnde.

The wearing of a medical mask or FFP2 mask is required during the entire stay in the rooms of the City Archive and City Historical Library.

Do you want to learn about the nearer and more distant environs of your home? Are your looking for material for editing a company or a club paper or for compiling an essay? Are you an amateur of genealogy?

History of the City

Bonn is one of the cities along the Rhine that is able to boast a rich tradition. It is well worth reading the chronicles and studying the history of the city, which brought both times of hardship and times of joy to its inhabitants.
