Jazzfest Bonn

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Jazzfest in the city, there will be a large open-air event on Bonn’s Market Square. On Saturday, 18 May, visitors will experience jazz in its great variety, free of charge and outside.

The programme will be opened at 12 noon by Mayor Ashok Sridharan and a number of official guests. The open-air concerts of the festival begin at 12:30 p.m. with the NRW Youth Jazz Orchestra and an ensemble from the jazz section of the Ludwig van Beethoven Music School Bonn. The band ¡ZAPPATA!, based in NRW and featuring top-class musicians, will perform songs by Frank Zappa in exciting arrangements.

The anniversary outdoor event runs parallel to Bonn’s Democracy Festival.

Jazzfest Bonn was founded in 2010 with the aim to show the audience the high quality of regional and national jazz musicians in combination with international stars. By placing the concerts in renowned concert venues, Jazzfest Bonn closes a gap in the cultural offerings of the music city of Bonn and the region. This was achieved by concentrating on contemporary and future-oriented music and a consistently high quality that goes hand-in-hand with international standards.

Once a year, the festival presents world-class artists and national stars in double concerts with young musicians and regional jazz celebrities. The musicians present their own compositions or contemporary interpretations of well-known works.

The governing mayor of Bonn is the patron of the festival each year.

In 2019, there will be a total of 25 concerts on 12 evenings over the coming three weeks.
