The works of Ludwig van Beethoven, Germany´s greatest composer, are played throughout the world. At the tender age of 12 he was creating sonatas and symphonies which to the day form the basis of every good musical education. In 2020 Germany will join the entire world in celebrating the 250th anniversary of his birth.

The house where Ludwig van Beethoven was born has become a symbol of Bonn. Many of the city´s musical events are dedicated to its most gifted son, and music fans from all over the world every year come to Bonn´s Beethoven festival.

Beethoven Year 2020

In 2020, Germany and the whole world will celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth with an entire festival year. In a unique cooperative venture, the Federal Republic of Germany, the State North Rhine-Westphalia, the Rhine-Sieg-District and the City of Bonn have joined forces to set up the Beethoven Jubiläums Gesellschaft mbH (Beethoven Anniversary Society) in order to coordinate this important jubilee and to publicise it beneath the umbrella brand BTHVN2020.

Throughout the Beethoven Anniversary Year there will be an abundance of different events in Bonn and all over Germany. Take a look at the event calendar to know what's going on during this special year:

BTHVN2020 magazine

The official BTHVN2020 magazine of Crescendo is now available at many outlets in Bonn, for example at the Bonn-Info or at the Beethoven-Haus shop. It contains an overview of the projects and presents exciting articles around the Beethoven anniversary year 2020.
