Alongside the global players, Bonn as a business location is characterized by small and medium-sized enterprises. The Economic Development Agency therefore supports small and medium-sized companies in particular with a wide range of services. The Service Center Economy is the first point of contact within the city administration for all questions regarding business start-ups, company development or relocation. In 2022, a total of 876 concerns, plans, projects and events were processed and organized. This total is made up of three fields of work. In 2022, 173 business start-up projects were supported, 505 companies interested in relocating and already established companies were assisted with their projects, and 198 target-group or industry-specific projects were processed or specialized events organized. A major focus of the work of the Business Service Center team was its involvement in the establishment of the Bonn Region Sustainability Hub (see the explanations in Chapter I.2).

Business start-up consulting
The start-up team provides support on the way to independence and is also available to start-ups for questions regarding the consolidation of the company after its foundation. One industry focus is on knowledge-intensive services. With the "BonnProfits" initiative, the Bonn Economic Development Agency and Sparkasse KölnBonn motivate start-ups to implement their business ideas. This service is complemented by attractive office space in the "BonnProfits" innovation and start-up center.
Real Estate Service
The real estate service works closely with owners and brokers of office and commercial space. Requests for space from self-employed persons, companies, institutions and public institutions can thus be met in a demand-oriented and neutral manner.
Financing and subsidy consulting
The financing and subsidy consulting for start-ups and existing companies includes the financing of investments, the creation of liquidity or the improvement of the climate balance and energy efficiency through public and private financiers.
Company networks
Economic development networks the business community, be it larger companies (City Hall Roundtable on Business), the business community as a whole (Bonn Business Talks), specific groups (Producing Companies Discussion Group) or in the industrial parks (Industrial Park Talks).
Thematically, climate neutrality and sustainability are taking on a much more central role in the network's work. Together with the Wissenschaftsladen Bonn (WILA) and GERTEC Ingenieurgesellschaft, the Bonn Economic Development Agency has already held six industrial estate talks as part of the "Climate-friendly industrial estates" project. The aim of the initiative is to provide impetus for the development and implementation of measures in the companies that promote climate-friendly further development of all commercial areas. Key elements are potential checks as well as consulting and subsidy offers for a higher location quality, a better open space structure, optimized energy consumption and a better utilization of energy generation in the resident companies.
In the discussion group of manufacturing companies, the topics of conversion to renewable energies and perspective use of industrial waste heat as part of the decarbonization of the heat supply have also taken on a high priority, also against the backdrop of the energy shortage and increase in price triggered by the Ukraine war.
Bonn Business Talks
For companies, doing business sustainably means challenging change processes that affect all areas of business - from their own mission statement to production and human resources development. On May 16, 2023, the 24th Bonn Business Talks on the forecourt of the Bonn Opera House were held under the motto "A place for sustainable ideas. Around 1,000 guests from business, science, politics and administration accepted the invitation. 42 partners and sponsors, who significantly finance the business talks, had the opportunity to present themselves and their services to the audience.
