Climate resilience of city centers - 2nd Bonn City Conference

The urgent issues of combating the climate crisis and adapting to its consequences were the focus of the second Bonn City Conference on October 25, 2021. Professor Nicole Pfoser traced the path from the theoretical foundations to numerous international examples from architecture and urban development of how city centers can become climate resilient. The head of the Office for Environment and Urban Greening, David Beier, focused in his contribution on the concrete measures in the inner city of Bonn.

Center management for Bad Godesberg, Beuel and Duisdorf

As part of the "Immediate program to strengthen our city centers and centers in NRW", the city of Bonn applied to the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for funding for three center managers. Since June 2021, center manager Sophie Büchner has been working successfully in the three city district centers of Bad Godesberg, Beuel and Hardtberg. Numerous networking meetings, events and advertising measures make the work of the traders easier, make the centers more attractive and serve, among other things, to prepare integrated urban development concepts. The projects, which were originally scheduled to run until the end of 2022, were extended until 2023 thanks to funding from the state.

Sundays open for sale

Under the moderation of the Office for Economic Development, retailers, tradespeople and churches have agreed for the fifth time on a total of eleven open Sundays per year. This "Bonn Agreement on Sundays open for business" is unique in Germany and will now run until 2024.

Voucher system

In spring 2022, the city of Bonn financed a ten-percent subsidy for a digital voucher system for end customers of up to 150,000 euros. The same amount was used to set up a fund for activities in the city's district centers, which subsidizes events and co-finances infrastructure projects such as Christmas lighting. Both activities serve to revitalize the centers in pandemic times. In addition, both measures are implemented by the business development department in close cooperation with the trade associations.
