The Bonn/Rhine-Sieg Center of Excellence for Women & Career

Since 2012, the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Center of Excellence for Women and Jobs has been a cooperative project of the business development agencies of the city of Bonn and the Rhein-Sieg district. It is one of 16 competence centers in North Rhine-Westphalia and is funded by the state of NRW and the European Union.

The Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Competence Center is committed to equal professional opportunities for women and men. The employment of women is to be improved qualitatively and quantitatively and the potentials of women are to be used more strongly. It supports small and medium-sized enterprises in attracting female skilled workers, developing the potential of women in the company and improving the compatibility of work, family and care.

Human Resources Development with Mentoring - Women in Leadership!

The qualification level of women in the region is above the national average. As the demand for skilled workers continues to rise, special attention must be paid to the many well-educated women. This potential is generally not sufficiently recognized and is correspondingly not reflected in the management levels. With the cross-mentoring program "mentoring4women-Frauen in die Führung!", the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Competence Center has been supporting small and medium-sized companies in their personnel development since 2014. The focus is on the targeted optimization of professional development and promotion opportunities for working women. The program is aimed at companies that want to develop managers from their own ranks and prepare a female employee for the next step in her career. They can use mentoring as a personnel development tool and remain attractive and competitive. Companies (SMEs) with five to 249 employees can participate in the program free of charge. 

Opportunities for ambitious women-Impetus for experienced managers

14 female specialists and managers from 13 companies are taking part in the current one-year cross-mentoring program 2020/2021. Experienced leaders from different companies accompany the women as mentors in their career development for one year. The program gives the executives the opportunity to pass on their experience on a voluntary basis and to gain new impetus through contact with the next generation of executives. The mentoring year is accompanied by kick-off and closing events as well as workshops and networking meetings.


The network "FAMILY-AWARE COMPANIES Bonn/Rhein-Sieg" has grown steadily since its founding in November 2013 and now has 90 member companies in the region. The goals of the network are to continuously raise awareness among companies, to identify concrete personnel policy options, and to provide support in implementing family-conscious personnel policies. Members receive advice as well as innovative technical impulses on family-conscious personnel policy and regularly exchange ideas at network meetings four times a year. Membership is free of charge. Network members can also use the network logo and present their company on the website: 

Professional impulses for family-conscious personnel policy

The Bonn/Rhine-Sieg Center of Excellence for Women & Career addresses current issues relating to family-conscious HR policies and offers a variety of event formats. The range of thematic focal points extends from generation management in SMEs, remote leadership and care scout workshops to part-time leadership. Furthermore, an action day on family-conscious personnel policy is held once a year. This year, there was a digital event series on the topic of "Mindful Leadership".
