I welcome you warmly to the Official Website of the City of Bonn www.bonn.de.
It offers you approximately 18,000 pages of information about administration and business, family and society as well as extensive information on International Bonn, a brimful calendar of events and online services which in many cases can spare you a personal visit to the City Hall or to one of the District Town Halls. You can also make an appointment from your own PC. All this is to provide a maximum degree of practical assistance to you, to intensify our dialogue with you and to enhance citizen participation.
I wish to invite you, however, to discover Bonn not only the virtual way. Get to know the wide range of shopping opportunities within easy reach. Enjoy the wealth of culture, for example Ludwig van Beethoven’s birthplace, the Museum Mile, drama, opera, political satire or the Youth Theatre. Bonn is a child-friendly and family-friendly city offering a wide range of sports, leisure and educational opportunities. All primary schools, for example, provide the services of the Open All-Day School, and the network of day-care centres for children under the age of three is being further extended.
I encourage you to discover also the "New Bonn”. In a process of profound structural change, Bonn has been developing into the German UN City since 1996. Together with its neighbouring cities, it is part of an attractive business and science region. The Bonn-based UN family keeps growing. "United Nations in Bonn: for Sustainable Development Worldwide” is the motto embracing such diverse activities as climate protection and combating desertification as well as voluntary service, early warning systems for the reduction of natural hazards, and the protection of species.
If your curiosity has been aroused and you want to know more about Bonn I suggest you follow us on twitter, or subscribe to our daily online newsletter "BonnLive online” (in German only), or register for our weekly information letter "Bericht aus Bonn” (in German only). You will receive first-hand accounts from the City Hall, information on coming events and interesting news from all walks of the City’s life.
For any questions or further information do not hesitate to call the city administration ("Stadtverwaltung” - phone: 0228/77-0) I also invite you to talk to us when you have novel ideas or suggestions.
If you wish to ask questions of myself or address subject-matters in the jurisdiction of the City Council you can do so online right now clicking on the portal "direktzu Jürgen Nimptsch”. The system is simple and transparent. You can send your contribution as text, audio document or video. It will then be published on "direktzu Jürgen Nimptsch”. The users of the portal themselves will decide by vote which issues will be dealt with. The three contributions winning most votes within a fortnight will be forwarded to me, and my replies can be read on "direktzu Jürgen Nimptsch”.
I wish all visitors a pleasant stay in Bonn, and I wish all Bonners to muster enough time to discover their City afresh over and over again.
Enjoy Bonn and have a good time in our City!
With best regards,
Yours,
Jürgen Nimptsch
Lord Mayor of the Federal City of Bonn
