Start-up advice and support

One of the main focuses of the Bonn Economic Development Agency is personal, competent and free advice for start-ups. During business plan preparation, the team provides support with individual advice on topics such as market analysis, site selection, pricing and financing. In 2022, a total of 173 start-up projects received individual support, and "statements on economic viability" were also issued for submission to the employment agency or job center.

Information events, workshops and networking evenings rounded off the comprehensive activities. In total, more than 1,000 people interested in starting a business were reached.

„BonnProfits“

Knowledge makes independent

With "BonnProfits", the Bonn Economic Development Agency and Sparkasse KölnBonn support people with skills, knowledge and ideas on their way to self-employment. The offer of information, advice and events is aimed in particular at founders in Bonn from knowledge-intensive sectors such as the IT, communications or technology industry. Through a well-developed web and social media presence, founders are addressed with special modules tailored to the target groups, from office space to consulting, qualification and coaching modules, and are advised on the further development of the start-ups. Activating startup potential in the city of Bonn, promoting knowledge-intensive services, and increasing the rate of self-employment among women have been the goals of "BonnProfits" for more than ten years.

Innovation and Start-up Center (IGZ)

In a prime office location in the Bundesviertel, the "BonnProfits" innovation and start-up center has developed into a business incubator for start-ups in the knowledge-intensive services sector and for companies wishing to set up in Bonn for the first time since it opened in January 2011. The attractive and affordable office space in a central location has so far offered nearly 90 companies the best conditions for a successful start. A healthy mix of industries as well as a comprehensive range of consulting services and events continue to make the IGZ highly attractive for start-ups.

Workshop series "Expanding competencies"

In 2022, the workshop series was aimed specifically at female founders and entrepreneurs with three half-day online workshops. With topics such as "Clear goal setting and realistic risk assessment," "Customer meetings made easy," and "Resilience, error culture, self-esteem," the workshops address participants who are at the beginning of their self-employment as well as women entrepreneurs who are reorienting themselves. The workshops also serve as a networking opportunity for women entrepreneurs.

Regional cooperation

The Economic Development Agency is a member of the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg start-up network, which was founded to implement the NRW Gründerstipendium.NRW funding program. At the jury meetings that take place, a representative of the founding team participates as a voting member of the jury.

Cooperation with the University of Bonn

The cooperation with the University of Bonn is being continued. As part of the career day of the Career Service of the University of Bonn, employees of the Economic Development Department gave an online lecture on the topic of "From university to self-employment - the small 1 x 1 of freelancing" and subsequently provided start-up advice. In addition, the Bonn Economic Development Agency continues to be involved in the jury of the study module "Business start-ups in the agricultural and food industry".

"BeraterinnenNetzwerk Bonn/Rhein-Sieg" Founders' Day

The "BeraterinnenNetzwerk Bonn/Rhein-Sieg" (Bonn/Rhine-Sieg Women Consultants Network), which has been in existence for more than 20 years, aims to increase the proportion of women in the start-up scene (currently around 40 percent). As an association of experts from institutions and self-employed consultants, it supports women in starting up and building up their businesses and brings women entrepreneurs into the public eye. The Bonn Economic Development Corporation is also represented in the network. In 2022, the advisors organized a Founders' Day with expert lectures, a roundtable discussion and topic-related brief consultations.
